“Best player management skills?” Klinsmann took care of Son Joon-ho, who was detained in China

The “name” that was almost forgotten was mentioned in the mouth of national soccer team coach Jurgen Klinsmann. He is Son Joon-ho (Shandong Taishan), a former national midfielder who was detained in China about six months ago and is in a situation where it is difficult to hear what he is up to.

At a press conference on his return home at Incheon International Airport on the 22nd, Klinsmann expressed his feelings about his first trip to China. Coach Klinsmann, who said, “I had a good time because I was welcomed in China,” brought up one player’s name.

It was none other than Son Joon-ho. Coach Klinsmann looked serious, saying, “What I personally hope for right now is news about Son Joon-ho ahead of Christmas.” 안전놀이터

Son Joon-ho was arrested by Chinese public security on May 12 while trying to leave for Korea with his family at Shanghai Airport. This is because of the “bribery charges.” At the time, local media in China reported that Son Joon-ho is likely to be under investigation in connection with the match-fixing case involving former coach Ha Wei of his team Shandong Taishan.

The Chinese government also expressed its position on the detention of Son Joon-ho. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin briefed on May 16, “It was recently found that a Korean citizen was arrested (temporary) under the law by a public security agency in Liaoning Province on charges of “taking over non-state operatives.”

Since then, the Public Security Bureau has switched to an arrest investigation when the deadline for Son Joon-ho’s criminal detention expired on June 18. Arrest investigation is possible for up to seven months.

According to Article 163 of the Chinese Criminal Code, the “crime of receiving non-state operatives” applies to cases in which a person belonging to a company or other unit who is not a government agency illegally takes property of another person by using his or her job status. Depending on the amount received and the severity of the crime, imprisonment and fines for not less than three years, imprisonment and fines for not less than three years and not more than ten years, and imprisonment for not less than 10 years or life.

Coach Klinsmann continued, “I hope (the news of Son Joon-ho’s release) will be a big Christmas gift for me, Korean soccer, and Son’s family,” and hoped for Son Joon-ho’s return to Korea. “I hope that the Chinese government will also help Son Joon-ho to meet his family again as soon as possible,” he said, adding, “I hope to spend Christmas with my family.”

This is not the first time that Coach Klinsmann has taken care of Son Joon-ho since he took office. He once expressed his willingness to help by selecting Son Joon-ho at the June A match held immediately after Son Joon-ho was detained.

Coach Klinsmann included Son Joon-ho’s name by announcing the list of national teams to play ahead of the A-match Peru and El Salvador in June. Even though he knew that he could not participate, he left one spot for Son Joon-ho. He said, “I want to continue to support you and help you. I want you to know that we are helping behind the scenes,” he said.

Son Joon-ho is a player who was expected to be in charge of the next national team’s midfield by participating in the 2022 Qatar World Cup. Son Joon-ho, who is famous for reading the flow of the game, has an adequate balance of offense and defense and pass skills. It is a great loss for the national team to waste time without such a capable player being bound by another country.

What kind of efforts will the government make. Foreign Minister Park Jin participated in the budget review of non-economic ministries of the National Assembly’s Special Committee on Budget and Accounts on the 8th to explain the progress related to the detention of Son Joon-ho.

Minister Park said, “We are continuing to communicate with China and make diplomatic efforts,” adding, “We have conducted 13 consular interviews so far, and we are providing consular assistance to check the health situation and prevent human rights violations.” He added, “China’s position is saying that it is investigating on charges of bribery by non-public officials,” adding, “We are supporting them to be investigated in a non-restraint state.”
