China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Friday referred to online gambling as part of a “cross-border crime” that should be addressed during multilateral discussions with other countries. Ministerial representatives from Myanmar and Laos, as well as China and Thailand, attended the talks in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
China, Thailand, Laos and Myanmar have jointly conducted a series of activities to combat cross-border crime, arresting more than 50,000 people involved in gambling and fraud since last year, China’s state-run Xinhua News Agency reported, citing Wang (data photo).
At Friday’s gathering, the four agreed to strengthen cooperation, maintain close coordination and step up efforts to combat cross-border crimes such as online gambling and telecommunications fraud, drug trafficking and human trafficking. 슬롯사이트 순위
This was jointly done to protect peace and tranquility in the region. Wang was also quoted as saying that the security situation in the region is undergoing complex changes, that cross-border crimes like online gambling and telecommunications fraud persist, jeopardizing the security of people’s lives and properties, and affecting social stability and the image of the country.
Wang said the high incidence of criminal crimes can only be addressed if countries in the region step up joint efforts to combat them.
He said China’s proposed global security initiative had received positive responses from other countries, including the three other countries involved in Friday’s talks.
China has been willing to work with other countries to boost joint efforts to crack down on cross-border crime, using global security initiatives as a guide.
Such work included strengthening border control networks and completely blocking illegal border crossing routes used by people called “unintended people.”
Wang said people fleeing from one country to another across international borders should be repatriated, exchanged information and intelligence to try to escape justice, and co-operated.
The Chinese foreign minister also mentioned what China calls the “Lanchang-Mekong region.” China’s definition includes Cambodia and Vietnam, and four countries that participated in Friday’s talks.
He called for a ministerial meeting on law enforcement and security cooperation across the region soon to integrate human resources, information, technology and equipment.
In March, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Zhen said China’s position on cross-border gambling was “consistent and clear.”
“China does not allow Chinese capital to be invested in overseas casinos, it does not allow Chinese people to be involved in overseas casino operations, nor does it allow overseas casinos that attract Chinese to gamble,” he said.
