With the season no longer a big deal, Bayern Munich will start a number of young players.
Bayern Munich will host Wolfsburg in the 33rd round of the 2023-24 German Bundesliga at the Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany, at 0:30 a.m. ET on Wednesday. Munich is currently third in the league with 69 points, while Wolfsburg is 12th with 37 points.
Before the match, the starting lineup was revealed. Kim Min-Jae will start for the second consecutive game in the league, following his start against Stuttgart.
Manuel Neuer will wear the goalkeeping gloves for Munich. Alfonso Davies, Kim Min-jae, Dayo Upamecano, and Jozua Kimmich will form the defense. At the back are Leon Goretzka and Aleksandar Pavlovic. The second line is made up of Briaan Zaragoza, Thomas Muller and Lobro Zbonarek. Matthijs Tel leads the attack from the front.
The starting lineup is notable for a number of new faces. Kim Min-Jae and Upamecano are the first-choice center backs in place of Matthijs Durich and Eric Dier, while Toure starts in place of Harry Kane. It’s also interesting to note the inclusion of Zaragoza, who, like Zvonarek, hasn’t been given much in the way of youth resources or opportunities.
Munich’s season is effectively over. After dropping the German Super Cup to RB Leipzig earlier in the season, they were eliminated early from the DFB Pokal and watched Bayer Leverkusen win the Bundesliga after an 11-game unbeaten streak.
They kept their title hopes alive by reaching the semifinals of the UEFA Champions League, but even then they were eliminated by Real Madrid in the semifinals, losing the second leg on aggregate by a score of 3-4.
After a 2-2 draw in the first leg of the semifinal at home, Munich dreamed of victory in the second leg. Their strategy of playing on the counterattack seemed to pay off as Alfonso Davies scored a golden goal in the second half to give Real the lead.
But Munich quickly fell apart. Joselu, who Real used as a substitute in their search for an equalizer, quickly unleashed a multi-goal barrage that sent Munich crashing to 먹튀검증 the ground. Joselu rattled the Munich net in the 42nd minute of the second half and two minutes of second-half stoppage time to seal the semifinal victory.
For Munich, a mistake from goalkeeper Manuel Neuer was painful. Neuer failed to deal with Vinicius Junior’s mid-range effort before Joselu’s equalizer.
In the end, the Bavarians returned home from the Santiago Bernabeu empty-handed and will now look forward to next season’s title. It will be the first time in 12 years since the 2011-12 season that Munich have finished unbeaten.
The remaining two league games on the schedule are of little consequence, as Munich have already secured a spot in next season’s Champions League. There is nothing to be gained from the so-called tie.
The only thing left to defend is pride. Even if we lose the title to Leverkusen and don’t end the season at the top for the first time in 12 years, we should still finish runner-up. Anything less than second place would be a blow to Munich’s pride.
Munich are currently third in the league, having played one game less than Stuttgart. A draw or win against Wolfsburg would move them back up to second place.
