Korean Open winner Kim Min-kyu “thinks of Choi Kyung-ju after his water swallow shot”

Kim Min-kyu Kim’s tee shot on the 13th hole (par-3) on the final day of the 66th Korean Open Golf Championships on Wednesday created a unique moment in the tournament’s history.

Kim missed his tee shot on the 228-yard 13th hole, which is surrounded by a water hazard at Woojung Hills Country Club in Cheonan, Chungcheongnam-do. The ball flew too low and headed toward the water on the left side of the green.

“I was trying to hit a low trajectory fade with a 4-iron,” Kim said at the press conference after his victory ceremony, “but I got too much pressure on it and it flew too low.”

“I thought it was in the water because I saw water splashing, but my caddie said, ‘I think the ball is alive.

Kim said, “That’s not going to happen,” but it did, and the ball came back out of the water and hung in the rough.

The ball was spinning so much that it skimmed the surface of the water as if it were floating.

“It reminded me of Choi Kyung-ju’s shot on the final day of the SK Telecom Open at Pinx Golf Course in Jeju last May,” Kim said.

Choi was playing the 18th hole (par-4) in a first-round playoff against Park Sang-hyun when she sent her second shot into a water hazard.

However, the ball landed on a small island surrounded by stones in the creek, and Choi was able to play his third shot without penalty.

Kim Min-kyu was similarly fortunate to save his shot and returned to the top of the Korean Open for the second time in two years.

“I would like to take the top spot in the points standings and seize the opportunity to enter the Conferry Tour, the second tier of the PGA Tour in Europe or the United States,” said Kim, who became the first player on the Korean Professional Golf Association (KPGA) Tour to win twice this season.

“Two years ago, I missed the cut, but this year I will try to play all four rounds,” added Kim, who also secured a spot in the British Open in July. 안전놀이터
