The KT Wiz broke the formula for winning the 2023 postseason. KT manager Lee Kang-cheol’s (57) hopes of taking Game 1 and then Game 2 to gain an advantage in the Korean Series were dashed. KT lost 4-5 to the LG Twins in the second game of the Korean Baseball Organization’s (KBO) Korean Series at Jamsil Stadium in Seoul on Monday. “We scored four runs in the first inning, but we couldn’t score more runs, so it was a tough game,” said Lee Kang-chul (57) after the game .True to Lee’s words, KT scored four runs in the first inning on two hits and two walks and chased LG starter Choi Won-tae (4 runs in ⅓ inning) off the mound.
However, they squandered additional scoring opportunities, including a bases-loaded walk in the top of the fourth and runners on first and second in the fifth. LG rallied in the bottom of the eighth with a two-run single by Park Dong-won .Lee expressed his unwavering trust in starter William Cuevas, who pitched six innings of two-run ball on short rest, Son Dong-hyun (⅔ innings, one hit, one walk) and Park Young-hyun (⅔ innings, two hits, two runs), whose streak of no-hitters in the fall stage was snapped.
“I could see that Son Dong-hyun and Park Young-hyun were tired, so I changed them quickly. They weren’t good today, but with a day off tomorrow (no game), they’ll be fine,” Lee said .Lee explained that Young-hyun’s poor performance was not the result of being hit in the leg by a pitch in the first inning, but he was disappointed with Kim Hyun-soo’s (LG) single through the first baseman’s side in the bottom of the seventh inning.
“First baseman Park Byung-ho had a good defensive position towards the foul line, but the bounce was unfortunate for us,” Lee reflected. After finishing the first and second games of the Korean Series with a 1-1 record, KT will take a day off and play the third game at Katie Weeds Park in Suwon on the 10th. Lee Kang-cheol will start Wes Benjamin in Game 3. Benjamin was very strong against LG in the regular season this year, going 4-0 with 스포츠토토존 a 0.84 ERA in five games.
