The controversial development plan will be submitted to the Urban Planning Commission

Cahuila Indians’ Agua Caliente Band is seeking permission to turn a square mile in downtown Palm Springs into a multibillion-dollar complex with high-rise buildings, shopping malls, restaurants, theme parks and second casinos.

“Because it’s in the downtown area, the city has to do a great job from this initiative, and it focuses on the city in terms of what we’re looking for,” said Richard Milanovic, president of Agua Caliente, in an interview with the Los Angeles Times.

The 412-member Agua Caliente Band is the only tribe in the state that already has two casinos, with a $95 million Palm Springs gambling center in the city that opened last November and a casino in Rancho Mirage. 메이저 토토사이트

“If everything in the plan appears, it will be a day of honor,” said David Reddy, Palm Springs City manager. “If only a third of the plan happens, it will have a tremendous positive impact on the whole city.”

But not everyone is excited. Homeowners, hotel owners and others say they are against the scale, design and location of the 640-acre complex, located just east of Palm Canyon Drive.

The agua caliente tribe defends the plan, calling it a vision of a “unique and cohesive earth with its own identity, separate but linked to Palm Springs city centre.”

The tribe compares to Pleasure Island in Orlando, Florida, an entertainment complex that includes eight nightclubs and evening street parties that began with music and fireworks.
