It wasn’t Son Heung-min or Hwang Hee-chan who were the stars of the ‘Son-Hwang War’.
Tottenham Hotspur suffered their second consecutive defeat in the 12th round of the 2023-24 English Premier League after a 1-2 away defeat to Wolverhampton at Molineux Stadium in Wolverhampton, England, on Nov. 11.
Spurs took the lead early in the first half through Johnson, but conceded a late equalizer to Sarabia in stoppage time. Lemina finished off Sarabia’s brilliant pass in stoppage time to seal the defeat.
Son Heung-min and Hwang Hee-chan, the stars of the ‘Korean Derby’, were unable to make their presence felt on the day. Both threatened side by side, but neither had a shot on target.
Tottenham started with Vicario in goal, followed by Foro, Dier, Davies, Emerson, Joivier, Bissouma, Sar-Cluczewski, Son, Heung-min and Johnson.
Wolverhampton started with Carr in goal, followed by Semedo, Kilman, Dawson, Totti, Ait Nou, Lermina, Gomes, Hwang, Cunha, and Vellegrard.
Spurs took a thunderous lead in the third minute of the first half when Johnson finished off Foro’s cross. But that was it. For the rest of the game, they were forced to defend as Wolverhampton pushed forward.
Davies made a great tackle to deny Ait Nouri in the 10th minute and Lemina had a shot saved by Vicario in the 33rd minute. In the 37th minute, Ait Nuri had another shot saved by Vicario. He was ruled offside, but it was another Sindling save.
Tottenham went close twice in the five minutes of added time. Lemina headed over the bar and Totti had a shot saved by Vicario.
Tottenham were on the back foot after the first goal. The second half was no different. At the start of the second half in the 46th minute, Bellegarde exploded with a shot. In the 53rd minute, Cunha took a shot from a pass from Ait Nuri, but it was inaccurate.
In the 55th minute, Hwang Hee-chan had a chance. After Gomes’ shot was cleared off the line, she shot straight at the defense, but it went into the side netting and missed the chance to equalize.
Tottenham fought back. In the 72nd minute, Hojbjerg sent in an early cross from Son Heung-min. Johnson headed it straight at him, but it went into the side netting.
Inaccurate passing and shooting poisoned Wolverhampton’s continued efforts to equalize. Even Kalejic’s perfect header in the 85th minute couldn’t find the back of the net. Tottenham also had no way to escape as they failed to provide Son Heung-min with a decent shot on target.
In the 88th minute, Son tried a right-footed shot that was blocked. The ball was cleared by Kluczewski, allowing Ross Barkley to shoot at goal, but he was denied by Sa.
Wolverhampton’s constant pounding paid off. Cunha’s brilliant 토토 pass found substitute Sarabia, who took a great first touch before slotting home to level the scores at 1-1.
In stoppage time, Lemina finished off Sarabia’s pass to give Spurs the lead. Tottenham ultimately fell to their first back-to-back defeats of the season with the 1-2 loss.
