Bae Ji-hwan of the Pittsburgh Pirates played a rehabilitation game. Once he returned to action, he had to give meaning.
Bae Ji-hwan played in the first center field of the home game against the Iowa Cubs (Chicago Cubs Triple-A) at Victory Field on the 22nd (Korea time) as a member of the club’s Triple-A Indianapolis Indians, and recorded no hits and one strikeout in three at-bats.
Bae Ji-hwan, who returned to the game 19 days after leaving due to a wrist injury, checked his senses by playing three at-bats and seven innings of defense.
An interesting pitcher was chosen as the starting pitcher on the day. Dan Staley, who played for the Lotte Giants in the KBO League from 2020 to 2023, is the main character.
He signed a minor league contract with the Chicago Cubs this season to return to the big leagues.
Bae grounded out to shortstop in the first inning, and struck out swinging in the third inning when his bat fell to a low slider at the 2-2 count. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Bae grounded out to the first base.
Bae Ji-hwan, who even played defense in the top of the seventh inning, finished the game by replacing Matt Frazier as a pinch hitter in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Strayley overwhelmed Indianapolis’ batters with four hits, two walks and four strikeouts in six innings.
Indianapolis won the game 5-2. He scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning alone. Dylan Shockley’s double to left field scored a comeback run, and with the bases loaded with two outs, Joey Bart, who was in a rehabilitation game with Bae Ji-hwan, hit a double to left field, and quickly turned the game around 4-2. Joshua Palacios even had a hit to the left, leading the team to a 5-2 victory.
Meanwhile, Pittsburgh’s Major League Baseball team lost 3-10 at home to the Tampa Bay Rays.
It was regrettable that Luis Ortiz, who took the mound after the opener, was sluggish in four innings with 10 hits, two homers, one walk, three strikeouts, and six runs. Dalton Jeffries stopped the bullpen from being consumed by blocking three innings.
Bryan Reynolds hit a solo home run in the top of the eighth inning, extending his hitting streak to 18 games. He broke his career high.
Tampa Bay’s Josh Lowe hit multiple home runs with two homeruns in the third and sixth innings. Center fielder Jose Siri showed off his defense by catching difficult hits by Nick Gonzalez in the second inning and Jack Suinski in the ninth inning.
