The U.S. Women’s Professional Golf (LPGA) Tour’s Buick LPGA Shanghai ($2.1 million purse) will be held at Qizhong Garden Golf Club (Par 72) in Shanghai, China, starting on Sept. 12.It will be the first time in four years that the tournament has been held after being canceled for three consecutive years from 2020 to 2022 due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The defending champion, Korean-American Daniel Kang, will be making his long-awaited third straight appearance in the event.
Born on October 20, 1992, Kang won the inaugural event in 2018 and lifted the trophy again in 2019 for his third career victory. He also has fond memories of winning the title a day after his birthday in 2018 and on his birthday in 2019.He then added two more victories in 2020 and one in 2022 to take his career total to six, but has yet to win this season. His best result this year was a tie for third at the HSBC World Championship in March. If Kang wins, it will be the third consecutive week that a Korean or Korean-American player has won.
On the 2nd, rookie Hae-ran Hae won her first title at the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship in her 20th career start .On the 9th, Kim Hyo-ju dominated the Ascendant LPGA, lifting the trophy a year and five months after the Lotte Championship in April last year. Korean wins on the LPGA Tour this year are four, including two by Ko Jin-young. Other South Koreans in the field include Hae-ran Ha, Arim Kim, Hye-jin Choi, Se-young Kim, and Im Hyang.
World No. 1 Lilia Boo (USA), No. 2 Yin Ruo Ning (CHN), No. 7 Lee Min Jee (AUS), and No. 9 Lin Shiyu (CHN) will be competing .With the event being held in China, it will be interesting to see how Yin Luning and Lin Shiyu fare. The 81-player field includes 22 Chinese nationals, including 15 members of the China Ladies Professional Golf 스포츠토토링크 Association (CLPGA).
