Decision-making lacking in deuce match, OK Ogino says “the two points we lacked were the difference”

OK Financial Group cried from decisiveness.

OK Financial Group saw its winning streak come to an end after losing to Hyundai Capital 2-3 (28-30, 27-29, 28-26, 25-19, 13-15) in the fifth round of the Dodram 2023-2024 V-League Men’s Division at Sangryoksu Gymnasium in Ansan on April 2.

After taking the lead in both the first and second sets, the team gave up the momentum to their opponents and lost the match at deuce. Fortunately, he was able to take the third set and push the match to a fifth set, but fell short at the end and had to settle for a point. Leonardo Leyva Martinez (registered name Leo) scored 42 points, Shin Shin-jin 16 points, and Bayarsaihan 토토 11 points, but it wasn’t enough to win the match.

OK Financial Group head coach Ogino Massa said, “We expected a tough match because Hyundai Capital’s side attackers have a high success rate. We went to deuce in the first and second sets and lost, but we were able to come back in the third set and gain momentum. Even though we lost, we were able to take solace in the fact that we won two sets,” he said.

“Hyundai Capital is a strong defensive team, so I think we have some things to work on until we meet them in Round 6. We need to make tactical changes not only in defense but also in offense,” he said, adding, “Still, the players did a great job and we were able to satisfy the viewers.”

At 12-14 in the fifth set, Hyundai Capital had another chance at 13-14 when Leo’s serve went in effectively, but unfortunately, the ball didn’t go over the net and the match ended in a somewhat futile manner.

It was disappointing for Leo, who served well throughout the match and became the first player in history to reach 400 serves. Coach Ogino expressed his disappointment, saying, “I had an ace on my previous serve, so it was right to put it in, but I made a similar mistake in practice, so I was disappointed that it didn’t work out in the match.”

The team won one point and improved to 40 points. Three teams have the same number of points, including third-place Samsung Fire (15-10, 40 points), fourth-place KEPCO (14-11, 40 points), and OK Financial Group (14-11, 40 points).

Now, every point counts. “It’s good that we’ve gotten to this point,” Ogino said. We have to enjoy this situation. Even though we lost today, we need to prepare for the next game. Points are important, so even if we lose, we need to play a match where we can win two sets and get at least one point.”

He also talked about the importance of the first set. “It’s especially important to win the first set,” said Ogino. Even in today’s match, we lost the first and second deuce because we lacked two points. I think this is the difference between our skills. We will make up for it and prepare for the next match,” he said and left the interview room.

OK Financial Group will travel to Daejeon on the 6th to take on Samsung Fire. Will OK Financial Group be able to regain their momentum?
