First Korean to compete in the Diamond League final

First Korean to compete in the Diamond League final, Woo Sang-hyuk finished third in Zurich with 2 minutes and 31 seconds.

High jump standout Woo Sang-hyuk (27-Yongin City Hall) became the first Korean athlete to reach the Diamond League Final.

Woo Sang-hyuk cleared 2.31 meters to finish third in the men’s high jump at the World Athletics Zurich Diamond League 2023 at the Retzigrund Stadium in Zurich, Switzerland, today (Jan. 1).

Woo cleared 2m 31 in three attempts, but failed to clear 2m 33 in the first attempt. Woo raised the bar to 2.35 meters after Mutaz Essa Bassim (Qatar) and Hamish Kerr (New Zealand) cleared 2.33 meters in the first period. Woo made two attempts at 2.35 meters, but failed both times and finished in third place.

Bassim cleared 2.35 to take first place, followed by Kerr at 2.33.

Adding six points to his Diamond League ranking, Woo finished with 20 points to punch his ticket to the 2023 finals, where he can finish as high as fourth.

After falling one point short last year, finishing in seventh place, Woo made it to the final stage with ease this year.

This year’s Diamond League Finals will be held in Eugene, Oregon, USA, on April 16 and 17. The winner will take home the Diamond League’s trophy and $30,000 in prize money.

Woo will fly to the US tomorrow to begin preparations 먹튀검증 for the Diamond League Finals.
