Michigan online game operators combine March sales of $275.1 million

Michigan’s March revenue was up 17.7% compared to February’s $218.5 million figure, and up 12.0% compared to January’s gross revenue of $229.6 million. Michigan’s March revenue was also up 18.8% year-over-year.

Michigan began gaming in January 2021, and March this year was the strongest online gaming month so far. Reported gaming revenue in February reached $218.5 million in March, beating the previous high of $188 million.

Meanwhile, sports betting accounted for $41.9 million of monthly revenue in March, up 37.4% from $30.5 million reported in February. Additionally, total online sports betting handling was at $40.4 million, 19.3% higher than in February.

March adjusted gross receipts (AGR) for gaming and online sports betting stood at $221.1 million. Gaming accounted for $194.5 million of this, up 14.9% in February, while the online sports betting operator is responsible for $26.7 million, more than double the $12.9 million reported in the previous month.

Michigan set to break through 2023 numbers
Michigan’s online gambling revenue hit a record $2.3 billion in 2023, but on current trajectory, the state is expected to exceed that by about $500 million.

Michigan’s online operators have accumulated $705.2 million in revenue so far this year, with the state expected to top $2.8 billion in 2024.

Michigan is benefiting from its online gaming success in terms of taxes, and operators reported filing $41.1 million in taxes and payments to the state in March.

Sales in March were 18.5% ahead of February, with $122.3 million of total sales coming from slot and table games.

Retail sports betting’s total eligible receipts (QAGR) for March was just $1.6 million, up 13.2% from a year earlier.

MGM Grand Detroit leads the three commercial casinos with 46.0% of the market share during the month of March. Motor City Detroit came in second with 31.0% of the market share, while Hollywood Casino in Griektown took 23.0%.
