After completing the team’s spring camp training held at Camelback Ranch in Glendale, Arizona, USA on the 21st (Korean time), Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said in an interview with local media outlets such as The Athletic that he would use Yamamoto and Glasnow as starting pitchers for the Seoul Series. reported.

Coach Roberts said, “It may change depending on the situation, but it is correct for the two players to pitch in Korea.”

It was not revealed which of the two players would be used as the starter for Game 1, the official opening game of MLB.

Yamamoto is the best Japanese pitcher who crossed the Pacific Ocean after signing a huge contract worth up to $325 million (about 433.7 billion won) over 12 years with the Dodgers in December last year.

Yamamoto, who played in Japan until last season, will make his MLB regular league debut in Seoul.

Japanese media outlet Sports Hochi said, “If Yamamoto starts in the first game of the Seoul Opening Series on the 20th of next month, he will become the first Japanese player to start the opening game in his first year in the big league.”

Yamamoto and Glasnow’s starting appearances in the Seoul Series were predicted long ago.

The Dodgers selected Yamamoto and Glasnow as the first or second starters in the early 2024 season as ace Walker Buehler recovered slowly after undergoing elbow ligament fusion surgery (Tommy John surgery) in August 2022.

San Diego, which faces the Dodgers, has not yet revealed the starting pitcher for the opening two games.

However, Japanese starting pitcher Yu Darubish has recently expressed his strong intention to start the opening series in Seoul, saying that his elbow is in good condition.

Yamamoto and Darubish, who played together on the Japanese national baseball team, are likely to face off as starters at Gocheok Dome.

The Dodgers and San Diego will hold practice games against the KBO League Kiwoom Heroes, LG Twins, and the Korean national baseball team from March 17th to 18th, and then play the official opening two-game series on the 20th and 21st.

The opening series in Seoul is expected to feature star baseball players from Korea and Japan, including Ha-seong Kim, Woo-seok Ko, left-handed bullpen Yuki Matsui (San Diego), and Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani.
