The 15,453 spectators and the NC and KT Wiz players watched with bated breath as the image of Kim Joo-won (21-NC Dinos) flying out was shown in ‘slow motion’ on the scoreboard at Katie Wiz Park in Suwon.
The ball did not touch the ground, but was clearly seen landing in Kim Joo-won’s glove, and the NC away fans roared.
NC defeated KT 3-2 in the second game of the KBO Playoffs (PO) at Katie Weeds Park in Suwon, South Korea, on March 31.
Just before the end of the game, a short but intense “Kim Joo-won Drama” was shown.
NC led 3-2 in the bottom of the ninth inning with runners on first and third. Reliever Lee Yong-chan struck out Moon Sang-chul and pinch-hitter Kim Jun-tae in succession and walked Bae Jae-dae.
With one out and the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth, Oh Yoon-seok took advantage of Yoo’s forked ball.
The ball sailed between third and second base. If the ball went to the outfield, it would be the game-winning hit for KT, and if Kim Joo-won couldn’t catch it at once, it would be the tying infield hit.
Kim Joo-won threw himself forward and caught the ball in his glove.
KT asked for a video replay, hoping for the best. The video review showed that the ball did not touch the ground.
The NC players roared and performed a victory ceremony.
NC, which swept the first and second games in a low-scoring affair, needs just one game from the remaining three to advance to the Korean Series for the first time in three years since 2020, when it won the overall title.
“The moment the ball hit (Oh Yoon-seok’s) bat, I thought, ‘If this ball is bound, we’ll tie the game, no matter what,'” Kim said after the game. “I’m glad I caught the ball in a crunch time and won a hard-fought game.”
The NC seniors rushed over to Kim to congratulate him.
“The seniors encouraged me, saying, ‘You did really well,'” Kim said shyly.
In the fall of 2023, Kim was having one of her most glorious moments.
Fresh off a gold medal at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games, Kim joined NC and has helped lead the team to a six-game postseason winning streak this year with her stellar defense and hitting.
After playing in the final of the Hangzhou Asian Games, Kim’s final goal this fall is to win the Korean Series.
“I think the Korean Series will be similar to the Asian Games final, and I’ll be nervous and excited,” Kim said.
He is very shy in interviews, but he is very bold during matches.
The defense that ended the second game of the PO came from a strong heart. 파워볼분석
