South Korea Arrests Thousands of Teenagers Over Gambling Crackdown

Korea has been investigating illegal gambling operations more strictly by holding them accountable for participating in illegal gambling or hosting such activities. In a recent bust, Korea’s National Investigation Agency (NOI) reported that it was able to arrest 2,925 people related to illegal gambling. 실시간 바카라사이트

Korean Teens Gambling Illegal
All these arrests were carried out for six months before NOI’s report, and the country is now launching a second six-month campaign in May to arrest more people linked to promoting illegal gambling.

In recent busts, around 1,035 teenagers were arrested, indicating a strong spread of illegal gambling services among teenagers, who tend to be the most vulnerable in games of chance. Despite these risks, teenagers were partial to gambling in Korea, and most were not attracted to their illegal status here.

NOI said 566 youths have been sent for counseling, as they must be on the road to recovery. However, leniency has not been shown to everyone. A total of 12 youths have actually been arrested for running online gambling platforms themselves, and at least six youths have reportedly promoted these websites through affiliates or otherwise.

A total of $44.9 million was seized from illegal gambling businesses and players during the six-month operation. NOI also said that social media also plays a role, but that peer influence has played a major role in the spread of illegal gambling websites, as teenagers saw and accepted gambling at peers or at school.

The majority of teenagers who were arrested were actually interested in baccarat rather than online casinos. For example, 41.9% preferred this particular card game compared to 17.1% of those who preferred online casinos. Among those who gambled, at least 19.8% played sports gambling, while another 14.7% enjoyed online slots.

Young people affected by gambling – but how much?
The data released by NOI is worrisome as it points out that young people in Korea have a very high participation rate in gambling, but it is also a solid basis for dealing with and directly managing resources to protect young people.

Studies from around the world have shown that regulating gambling has made it easier to track the participation rate among young people in general. Bringing more gambling options may have prompted some young people to gamble more, but it has also made it much easier to track their participation and publicize public debate and political action.

Korea does not allow any form of online gambling, which has led players to look for alternatives, such as offshore or illegal gambling sites. However, they may be contributing to the festering gambling problem.
