Coach Kim is well known to K-League fans as a striker in the past by his sharp scoring and penetration, and he played for various teams such as FC Seoul, Jeju United, and Gangwon FC, starting with Daejeon Citizen (currently Daejeon Hana Citizen).

Since retiring as a player, he has gained leadership experience in both national and professional teams by age, starting as a citizen playing coach in Daejeon and being appointed as a coach for the AFC Thubies and South Korea’s U-23 national team.
