Chung’s performance has been up and down.
Anyang’s Chung played a scrimmage against the Fubon Braves of the Taiwan P.LEAGUE+ at the National Taiwan University of the Arts gymnasium in Taipei, Taiwan, on Nov. 21. The team was unable to win the second exhibition game of their Taiwanese training camp. The score was 84-94.
The Taiwan P.LEAGUE+ and TPBL have 12 minutes each in the fourth quarter. However, Chung played 10 minutes of the fourth quarter in the practice game against Fubon. This is because they played two consecutive days of practice, and the start time of the 메이저사이트 practice game on the 22nd was pushed back to 3pm.
Not bad for Jungkwanjang. Fubon has four foreign players on its roster, compared to two for the Chiefs. Five if you count Muhammad Mbayeh (205 cm, F), a former Taiwanese university player. The physical demands on Jung Kwan-jang could be even greater.
That’s why Park Ji-hoon (184 cm, G) and Choi Sung-won (184 cm, G), Bae Byeong-joon (189 cm, G) and Michael Young (206 cm, F), and Cady Laren (204 cm, C) have been brought in. (Before meeting with Chung, Fubon had requested “two foreign players in the first and third quarters”).
However, it was an unfamiliar lineup. The KBL only allows one foreign player on the court, so Chung struggled on both offense and defense, especially with the lack of offensive movement.
However, the offensive chemistry between the players gradually improved. The team’s offensive capabilities were more evident when they transitioned to offense after a defensive rebound. They led 16-13 with 4:53 left in the first quarter.
Chung brought in Javi Gomez (195 cm, F) as a substitute. This was to bolster the forward line. However, Gomez also had to defend the foreign player. It didn’t change the fact that Chung had to deal with a mismatch.
Unable to overcome the jitters, Chung started the second quarter with a 24-28 lead. Lee Won-dae (182 cm, G), Gomez, Jung Hyo-geun (200 cm, F), Lee Jong-hyun (203 cm, C), and Michael Young were brought in to play the second quarter with one foreign player.
However, it put more pressure on Jung’s defense and rebounding. Fubon still had three foreign players on the floor, and he lost the height battle and gave up the paint zone to Fubon. In addition, Chung’s backcourt speed was slower than Fubon’s forward speed.
Chung’s perimeter shooting was also off the rim. Chung couldn’t find a solution on offense or defense. Even when Fubon inserted a foreign player, the team’s performance did not improve. The score was 40-56 at halftime.
Choi Sung-won, Bae Byeong-joon, and Jung Jun-won (194 cm, F), along with Young and Laren, were in the starting lineup for the third quarter. This was also something that Fubon had agreed to beforehand.
The players’ focus was different. So did the intensity of defense and the speed of offensive transitions. With the fundamentals in place, Chung’s team was able to pull within single digits (49-57) two and a half minutes into the third quarter. It was a better performance than the second half of the second quarter.
With the momentum in his favor, Zheng took advantage of Fubon’s weaknesses, especially by making multiple passes to create shooting opportunities from outside the three-point line. With easy 3-point opportunities, Chung tied the score at 59-59 with 5:30 left in the third quarter.
But then came the bad news. Choi Sung-won injured his right ankle during a steal. (A Jungkwanjang official said, “(Choi) stepped on an opponent’s foot while landing after the steal.”) Head coach Kim Sang-sik immediately put Park Ji-hoon back into the game. Choi was immediately checked by a trainer after returning to the bench.
Chung’s momentum slowed slightly after that. They battled back and forth with Fubon, but were unable to stay ahead of them. The third quarter ended 64-69.
In the fourth quarter, Chung brought in only Laren, who was able to overcome the height disadvantage to some extent, but also lost the speed battle to Fubon. He didn’t have the same performance as in the third quarter. They were down 64-76 just 2 minutes and 50 seconds into the third quarter.
However, Chung turned up the defensive energy level. The defense halted Fubon’s momentum. A two-handed dunk by Lee Jong-hyun (203 cm, C) made it 72-76 with 5:38 left in the game. Fubon was locked up again.
Head coach Kim Sang-sik brought in Kim Jun-hyung (201 cm, F) with five minutes left in the game. Kim was acquired from Changwon LG in August. He is a forward who combines height and shooting. Head coach Kim Sang-sik wanted to test Kim Jun-hyung’s capabilities.
However, regardless of Kim’s substitution, the team was unable to maintain the same momentum at the beginning of the fourth quarter. Young, who came in for Laren, didn’t perform as well, and the score was still 78-82 with 2:36 left in the game.
Chung brought Laren back in at that point. However, Chung was unable to close the gap with Fubon. He was unable to win the first practice match against Fubon.
